For decades, Noam Chomsky has been an analyst and activist working in support of the Haitian people. In addition to his revolutionary linguistics career at MIT, he has written, lectured and protested against injustice for 40 years.

Damming the Flood Haiti, Aristide, and the Politics of Containment (Verso Books) has been widely praised as the first accurate and comprehensive analysis of recent Haitian history as well an insightful eye into the future of the battered Caribbean country. In his groundbreaking book, Hallward analyzes the role of foreign powers, including Canada, in the overthrow of Aristide and the other institutions of elected government in Haiti in February, 2004. As Hallward chronicles, the story of Haiti’s betrayal has much to teach Canadians about the acts done in our name when we weren’t looking.

Montreal-based photographer Darren Ell has a dossier of photos, audio, and videos documenting the consequences of the Canada-supported 2004 coup d’etat in Haiti at the National Film Board’s site Citizenshift.org.
