The Rector of the State University of Haiti (UEH) concerned by incidents of Friday, February 17
Jean Vernet Henry, the Rector of the State University of Haiti (UEH), says he is concerned by the incidents on Friday of last week when President Martelly, accompanied by the First Lady, tried to enter the campus of the Faculty of Ethnology of the UEH to attend an international symposium being held under the theme 'The Ethnology and the construction of the nation, people and citizens of Haiti.'
"This incident is really unfortunate. It's true that we do not yet have all the basic information…but in any event, it is not normal to have rocks thrown onto the cortege of the President.
"At the same time, I believe there are institutional relations to be maintained. Considering the plan of the President to arrive at the Faculty of Ethnology, he should have announced this to the Dean of the Faculty and at that time there would have been measures taken to correctly receive him.
"It's an unspeakable incident. I am very embarrassed by something such as this because I was obliged at a certain moment to call upon the Red Cross in order to evacuate people..."
"It is not normal what happened... All the damage that was caused, some individuals invaded the grounds of the faculty and broke everything in sight... Already we are lacking basic means and now we're seeing losses like this ... I am really concerned by what happened..."
